As you have noticed William Jewell has (and still is)
undergoing some serious changes. With the switch to NCAA, renovations to Curry Library,
and the addition of the Pryor Learning Commons Jewell has seen vast alterations
not only to the campus but also the notoriety of our establishment. These
changes however will not be the last to William Jewell. At the end of this
academic year the head of Career Services, Judy Rychlewski, will be retiring.
Judy has served in the Career Service Office for thirty-seven years, and has
helped countless students and alumni reach their goals and find jobs that they
enjoy. Judy has decided to retire to spend more time with her family, and
travel with her husband Walt. In addition to Judy’s retirement is an office
makeover. Career Services will change over the summer in to the Office of
Career Development and Internships. We will be placing a much larger focus on
helping current students find internships within their field during their time
here at Jewell. Our hope is that by stressing involvement within your area of
academic interest Jewell alumni will have more opportunities and have an easier
time entering the workforce after graduation. Look for next week’s blog for
upcoming internship and job opportunities.

Federal Reserve Bank Open Info Session
On Monday, February 11th William Jewell had the
pleasure of welcoming the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City to its campus. The
Federal Reserve Bank held an open information session that was aimed at
informing students about the various career and internship opportunities that
they had available. In addition they outlined the application process that is
needed for all positions. The Federal Reserve looks for individuals that have
strong analytical and problem solving ability, leadership skills, oral & written
communication, initiative, and project management and organization skills.
Joining the Federal Reserve will give you access to personal and professional
growth opportunities, involvement opportunities in the community, and great employee
benefits. Internships are offered in a variety of departments over the summer
and last for 10 weeks. These internships are paid and provide a great
opportunity for full-time job consideration upon graduation. The interview
process for full-time positions consists of 3 interviews: on campus, in-house,
and final interview. For internships the
on campus interview is the final interview. To learn more information about the

Career Athletes Seminar Tonight
If you are a WJC Athlete...
you are required by the WJC Athletic Department to attend the Power of Being a Student-Athlete Seminar conducted by Career Athletes on Wednesday January 30th, from 7-815 in 221-222 of the Union. Kim Pence, director of student-athlete development & internships will facilitate the program.
POWER Seminar Series “Power of Being a Student-Athlete”
The session encourages student-athletes to take an assertive role in their personal career development. Discussions take place regarding what organizations are looking for in graduates today, resume preparation, how to network and differentiate themselves, summer jobs and internships, as well as frank dialog about competition that student-athletes face in the career-seeking process. The sessions also educate student-athletes on their unique skill set and how to articulate these skills and traits in an interview situation. Topics covered include but not limited to: Social Networking vs. Professional Networking, Establishing Your Athletic & Career Goals, Head-to-Head Competition, Who Employers Want to Hire, How to Innovate & Differentiate Yourself Online, Getting Involved On-campus, etc. A 21-page career prep manual is provided for all attendees, and several of the workbook exercises are performed during the session. Student-Athletes are afforded an opportunity via virtual career coaching to sign-up and stay connected with the Career Athletes Presenter well after the campus program for continuous resume feedback, graduate school assistance, and help with internship opportunities and professional networking on their school’s custom network. Career Athletes will provide an exclusive segment to educate your athletes on how to meet campus recruiters at leading organizations looking to hire athletes including Adidas, Dick’s Sporting Goods, PepsiCo, and Amazon.com through your school’s customized Career Athletes Network.
William Jewell's athletic department has formed a partnership with Career Athletes to help provide additional career education, guidance, and networking opportunities that will help many of you achieve your ultimate goal of landing great careers upon graduation. For those of you who are freshmen and sophomores, this may be the furthest thing from your mind, but preparing properly will have a significant impact on what types of careers will be available to you after graduation.
Career Athletes is also home to many of the top internship programs in the nation, hosting thousands of internships and career opportunities with many of America's best companies! Several employers in the Career Athletes Community are currently hiring prospective individuals for internships that could lead to a full-time career after graduation.
